Stellan Welin
Research interests
My general interests are ethical and social issues in emerging biomedical technologies such as xenotransplantation, human embryonic stem cells and tissue engineering. Together with Anders Persson I recently published a book Contested technologies: xenotransplantation and human embryonic stem cells.
I have also been involved in ethical issues in organ donation. Recently I have started on a project on ethical and other issues surrounding autism. Together with researchers at Chalmers and SIK, Göteborg and in Europe I am participating in research on various aspects of in vitro meat – meat produced from animal cells in bioreactors.
I have an old interest in political philosophy and general ethics.
Teaching
I teach a course on Bioethics and Research Ethics for doctoral students twice a year in Linköping.
Other
I am member of the Ethics group of OFO Middle Sweden (Organization for organ procurement) and a deputy member of the National Advisory board on Gene Technology.
