Pier Jaarsma
My research focuses on the relationship between autism, neurodiversity, health and the good life. In particular the claims of neurodiversity in relation to health concepts and ideas of normality will be explored. A part of my project is an empirical study of internet communities as well as autobiographical works of people with autism. The description of ethical norms, values, ideals and the identification of ethical issues, e.g. autism and genetic technologies, in the so-called autistic culture will be the main goal of the empirical part of the study. Normative ethical analysis of the findings of the empirical part will be the second part of the project.
